Chicken barbecue

All are encouraged to support the Lower Swatara Lions Club chicken barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The half-chicken dinners can be picked up between noon and 2 p.m. at the Lions building in Shopes Gardens.

Dinner also includes a baked potato, applesauce and roll. Don’t cook on this day! Please come out to support our great Lions Club. See any member to purchase tickets.

Halloween parade

It is time to think about Halloween floats and costumes!

The Kiwanis Club of Middletown will be playing host to its 65th annual parade on Monday, Oct. 15. The rain date is Oct. 16.

Yard sale

Mark your calendar now for the semi-annual Old Reliance Farm yard sale event on Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6. The sale is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

Taco Salad

From the Wedding Book Collection

1 head lettuce

1 lb. ground beef

1 large onion

1 6 oz. pkg. Fritos

1 bottle Catalina dressing

2 large tomatoes

1 pkg. taco seasoning

1 lb. can kidney beans, drained

1 cup longhorn cheese

Brown meat; drain off fat. Add 1 cup water and taco seasoning. Cook until very dry.

Cool to room temperature. May place in refrigerator for fast cooling.

Cut up lettuce, onion, tomato and cheese. Toss with beans and dressing just before serving. Break up Fritos and put on top. Serves 16.
