Hi, people! This Sunday is Father’s Day. How about encouraging your dad with the gift of time? This never gets old!

Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there, and to all of you who give fatherly wisdom.

Did you know in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that established June 14 as Flag Day? Congress established National Flag Day in August 1946. It commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag, which happened June 14, 1777. So let’s fly the red, white, and blue Thursday!

LulaRoe Bingo

LulaRoe Bingo benefitting our Lower Swatara Lions Club featuring Kristina Spandler’s Mobile Boutique will be held on Friday, June 22 at the Lions building, Theodore Avenue, in Shopes Garden.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Bingo is from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $25 per person and includes all games. Additional cards, raffles and concessions will be available.

Chicken barbecue

The Middletown Church of God is holding a chicken barbecue on Saturday, June 30.

A delicious chicken dinner, including sides, will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the kitchen at 245 W. High St., at the rear of the building.

Melon Salad

From the Wedding Collection

1 honeydew melon (sliced)

1 c. watermelon balls

1 c. cantaloupe balls

honey-spice dressing

salad greens

Mix honeydew, watermelon and cantaloupe in a bowl. Pour honey spice dressing over fruit. Cover and refrigerate. Just before serving, toss fruit until coated with dressing; serve on greens. 4 or 5 servings.

For the honey-spice dressing, mix 2 Tbs. of lemon juice, 2 Tbs. of honey and 1/4 tsp. of ground cinnamon.
