Marjorie W. Rhen
After a lengthy illness, Marjorie W. Rhen, (Marge), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, with her loving family at her bedside, a few weeks shy of her 90th birthday. Born to the late James and Malinda Wills in Lewistown, Pa., she grew up in Belleville. After her high school graduation, she was very proud of moving to the city of Harrisburg, where she graduated from Central Penn Business College. There she met her husband, Dale S. Rhen of Middletown, and they married. They were very industrious and engaged in various employment while building their family business, Rhen’s Insurance Agency, which operated in Middletown for over 45 years. Marge supported Dale throughout his long political career and also served as a congressional secretary. She was a stay-at-home mother for several years after her daughter Michelle was born. Marge was very devoted to her family and created a loving and beautiful home for them. She took great pride in the hospitality she showed to family and friends.
Marge was very active at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Middletown, singing in the choir for over 50 years. She also taught Sunday School for many years, helped with Bible School, served on various committees and helped with church dinners. Her other talents and interests included painting, both oil and watercolor, as well as participating in the Middletown Women’s Club, and in her Card Club for many years. She enjoyed swimming, and going to the beach in Stone Harbor, N.J.
Marge is survived by her daughter Michelle Rhen Allen and son-in-law Vince Allen, of Hummelstown, two granddaughters Rachel along with her husband Jordan and Rebecca, as well as a great-granddaughter Rhen, who bears our family name. She is also survived by her brother Samuel B. Wills, of California. In addition, she leaves behind a sister-in-law Doris D. Rhen, five nieces, two nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and a great-great-niece. She was predeceased by Dale, her loving husband of 51 years. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
We greatly appreciate Vince’s loving dedication to caring for Marge, and special thanks to Amanda and Hope, also devoted caregivers, as well as to Hospice of Central PA, for assisting our family and making it possible for Marge to enjoy living in her own home, which was so very important to her.
A tribute to Marjorie’s life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 121 N. Spring St., Middletown, with the Rev. Dr. J. Richard Eckert officiating.
There will be a visitation from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday, with a reception to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Choir in Middletown, Dauphin County Meals on Wheels, or Hospice of Central PA.
