Maybe you like the real reason for the season and focus on the Christ child and His gift to the world.
Whatever it is, I wish you a joyous time of happy moments with family and friends.
I certainly like the sparkle of bright lights and festive decorations, the beautiful music that we have heard our entire lives, and many fun traditions. I also love to reflect on what it all means and why we do this celebrating.

The Lower Swatara Twp. Board of Commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the municipal building on Spring Garden Drive.

Congrats, Rebekah
Rebekah White, daughter of Kevin and Michele White of Lower Swatara, granddaughter of Steve and Carol White, and sister of Adam White has made her family proud.
Rebekah, a 2010 graduate of Middletown Area High School, is a biology major at Slippery Rock University. She carries a 3.8 grade point average, which puts her on the Dean’s List each semester.
Recently, Rebekah interviewed at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia along with 35 other applicants. On her way back to Slippery Rock she was called and was told that she was their first choice. They wanted to offer her the placement that day before she decided to go somewhere else.
Grandma states, “We always knew Bekah was smart, now we know we are right. Congratulations, Bekah. You will look pretty cool in your little white jacket.”

Volunteers needed
The Giant Center and Hersheypark Stadium are in need of volunteers for the month of December. The Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Dept will receive funds if people volunteer on its behalf.
Individuals will receive vouchers (park passes) for their participation.

Christmas craft show
Middletown First Church of God will hold a Christmas craft and gift show from 8 a..m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Homemade candy and baked goods, crocheted items, jewelry and candles are just some items available. There will also be gifts for sale from a variety of vendors including Scentsy, Thirty-One, Mary Kay, Tastefully Simple and La Sophia.
After shopping, you can purchase a hot breakfast or a hot turkey plate complete with filling for lunch.

Kierch Carol Sing
A warm invitation is sent out to all to attend the Annual Christmas Carol Sing at St. Peter’s Kierch at North Union and High Streets, Middletown, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9.
Hot chocolate and cookies will be served after the service.
Dress warmly, as there is no heat in the Kierch.

Live Nativity
Middletown First Church of God invites you to take a step back from the busy Christmas holiday and remember the real reason we celebrate it.
Drive or walk through our Living Nativity, complete with Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, shepherds, kings and live animals from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 and Sunday, Dec 16.
Afterward, join us in the church lobby for refreshments and live music by various community members.
There is no charge for this event, as it is a gift to the community.
