There’s a bear roaming around Lower Swatara Township.

Acting Police Chief Dan Tingle told the Press & Journal that the bear is a young adult black bear weighing 175 to 200 pounds.

Anyone who sees the bear should call Dauphin County communications at 717-558-6900. It was last spotted in a patch of woods between Farmhouse Lane and Candlewycke Drive at about 11:15 a.m. today.

The officers then lost sight of the bear right before a storm. The Dauphin County Game Commission is assisting the officers, Tingle said.

He said there were reports of a bear in the area in Highspire the last several days.

Tuesday, people were posting on Facebook that they saw the bear near the 200 block of Lumber Street, Tingle said.

He said this morning the bear was spotted in Shope Gardens, Greenwood Hills, Twelve Oaks and Old Reliance, where officers lost track of it.
