Michael P. Sabol


Michael Paul Sabol, 90, of Middletown, passed away, Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

He was born on August 18, 1928 in Coaldale, Pa. to Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Sabol.

Michael grew up in Coaldale and Tamaqua, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne E. (Leonard) Sabol, three brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, and Leonard Sabol and two sisters, Dorothy Houser and Margaret Ripko.

Michael worked for The Old Phoenix Iron and Steel Co. before retiring as an equipment operator for PennDOT. He also served three years in the Army Air Corps., and also worked as a part-time bartender at The West Shore Country Club for many years.

Michael belonged to The Hershey Italian Club, Verhovay Club, Middletown Moose, American Legion and Elks. He loved Notre Dame, the Phillies and the Eagles. He enjoyed Big Time Music and loved to dance with The Metropolitan Dance Club.

Michael leaves behind his two daughters; Cheryl Lynn Smerick and Michelle Paula Sabol; two grandchildren, Edward J. Smerick (his wife Katie), Tisha Kirchner (her husband Beau); three great-grandchildren, Conner, Amber and Zander; a brother Daniel of East Strausburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 280 N. Race St., Middletown, with the Rev. Fr. Ted Keating as celebrant. Viewing will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 260 E. Main St., Middletown.
