Mary Sopko


She was born on August 2, 1918 in Middletown and was the daughter of the late Bertha Trocik.

She was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Middletown, and she worked at various retail shops in Middletown, ending her career at Dutch Village as the beloved Candy Lady.  

In addition to her mother, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Ebersole, son Joseph Sopko, three brothers John, Allen and Robert Trocik, and sister Faye McFadden.

She is survived by her sister Helen Johnson of Jacksonville, N.C.; two granddaughters Sherry, wife of Gordon Catt of Mount Joy, and Michele, wife of Mike Cochran of Indiana, Pa.; grandson Michael Sopko of Middletown; three great-grandchildren Kenny Manfred and wife Pamala of Middletown, Jaime Blouch, wife of Travis of Hummelstown, and Trey Cochran of Indiana, Pa.; two great-great-grandchildren Travis and Nicole Blouch; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Frank E. Matinchek and Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Middletown, with the Rev. Ted Keating officiating.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Middletown.
