Mary C. Espenshade


Mary Catherine Espenshade, 91, of Royalton, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Middletown Home.

She was born on October 12, 1928, in Middletown and was the daughter of the late Charles and Celia (Swiler) Weidner.

Mary started her working life as a beautician and then as a civil servant, retiring from New Cumberland Army Depot. She was a member of First Church Of God and the Ladies of the Moose, both in Middletown Pa. Mary was a roller skating enthusiast in her younger years, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and was a fierce card player. She loved spending time with family and friends at home where she specialized in tea parties with her beloved great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Espenshade as well as two brothers, Charles Weidner and John Weidner, and two sisters, Iva Gruber and Mildred Weaver.

She is survived by her four children, Audrey and her husband Rod Chamberlain of Garden Ridge, Texas, Ron and his wife Theresa Espenshade of Etters, Pa., Gail and husband Gary Derk of Mt. Joy, Pa., and Kay and husband Hugh Grant of Schertz, Texas; a sister-in-law, Miriam Weidner of Elizabethtown, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Middletown First Church of God, with the Rev. Kimberly Shifler officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.

The family has entrusted the care of the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Middletown to handle the funeral arrangements.
