John Rowan II


John E. Rowan II, 83, of Enhaut, died Thursday, March 31, 2016 at his home.

 He was a retired Cross Country Track and Basketball Coach for the Middletown Area School District for over 40 years and a retired Teacher for the Middletown Area School District for over 32 years, most of the time teaching at the elementary level. He was a graduate of John Harris High School Class of 1950, and Shippensburg University Class of 1954. He was a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Harrisburg for over 60 years until it closed, and current member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Swatara Township, Robert Burns Lodge #464 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Forest No. 43, and the Zembo Shrine.

 John was the son of the late James E. and Catherine Beinhauer Rowan, and is survived by his loving wife of 46-1/2 years, Jacqueline Hoffeditz Rowan. He was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Rowan and a sister, Charlotte Josslyn.

 Private Graveside Services and Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin. A Public Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, Swatara Township, with the Rev. Dr. B. Michael Brossman officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. A luncheon in the church hall will immediately follow the service.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 1010 Orchard Dr., Oberlin, PA 17113, or Humane Society of Greater Harrisburg, 7790 Grayson Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17111.

 Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home, Steelton.
