Jay Stouffer


Born in Newville, he was the son of the late Paul H. Stouffer Sr. and Esther M. Swartz Stouffer.  

He was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II, and he worked as an aircraft engine mechanic at the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown and the Naval Air Propulsion Test Center, Trenton, N.J.; he was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown for more than 30 years and was the caretaker of both his church and the Historic St. Peter’s Kierch, and was also a member and caretaker of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Levittown; and he enjoyed golfing, acrylic painting, hunting, cooking and spending time at his trailer in the mountains.  

He was preceded in death by a sister Jean Nissley and a brother Paul H. Stouffer Jr.

He is survived by two children Ronald J. Stouffer, husband of Patricia of Hamilton Square, N.J., and Susan M., wife of J. David Bryan of Towson, Md.; three grandchildren, Matthew Stouffer, Becky Lowry, wife of Ryan, and Laura Seeth, wife of Dan; two brothers Joe Stouffer, husband of Mildred, and John Stouffer, husband of Sandy, all of Middletown; and a sister-in-law Nancy Stouffer of Middletown. 

Jay’s Life Celebration service was held on Tuesday at his church, with Pastor J. Richard Eckert officiating.  

There will be no public viewing.  

Interment with military honors was in Middletown Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jay’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Spring and Unions Sts., Middletown, PA 17057.
