James Thornton Jr.


James Thornton, Jr., 65, of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Hershey Medical Center.

He was born May 17, 1954 in Philadelphia and was the loving son of the late James Thornton Sr. and Katie (Lane) Holmes.

James’s passion was cutting hair. He worked as a barber for Woolf Doctors for many years.

He was a member of the Islamic Society of Greater Harrisburg.

Growing up he was a protector for all his siblings and would always have their backs. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by many.

James is survived by his wife of three years, Malinda (Daniels); sons, James Thornton III, Daryl Thornton, Jamall Thornton, Jaheem Thornton; daughter, Katrina Waddington; brothers, Terrance Holmes, Steven Holmes, Peter Holmes; sisters, Tina Broddnax (Vincent), Kathy Green, and Margaret Jones (Paul); seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A tribute to James’s life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Grace & Mercy Church, 501 Ann St., Middletown, Pa., with the Rev. Florence Abdullah officiating. There will be a visitation from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James’s name to Grace & Mercy Church.

The family has entrusted the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremations Services, Inc., 260 E. Main St., Middletown with the funeral arrangements.
