It happened one night: Night Out is a hit in local towns

midout8 14 13 webPress And Journal Photo by Daniel Walmer Middletown Police Officer Peter Fure demonstrates special operations equipment to sisters Alyssa (front) and Ava Eckman and their mother Nicole.Hundreds of Middletown, Steelton and Highspire residents flocked to the streets for National Night Out, a nationwide crime prevention event on Tuesday Aug., 6 where residents interacted with the police and emergency workers who serve them.

National Night Out isn’t new to any of the communities, but Middletown’s festivities were boldly reimagined as a communitywide event by police Officer Gary Rux and a committee of community members that he organized.

Police interact with children frequently, and kids often tell cops that they have nothing to do, said Rux.{jcomments on}
