Welcome, summer! Are you having a June 20 “first day of summer” party? Break out the ice cream and flip-flops. No social discord or virus can stop Saturday from being a sunshiny, happy day.

What is your favorite summer activity? I have visions of a beautiful tropical scene ... waves and sand, all the way.

While on the beach, I love to pick up shells! Whatever you find delightful, I hope you can make it happen this weekend.

Happy 35th anniversary to Scott, my husband, and myself. We were married in Sparta, New Jersey, on June 22, 1985. I recently found the candle that was used during the ceremony. Yes, I’m going to light it and celebrate with my best friend. Hopefully we will spend a day at the beach!

Congrats to graduates

Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, recently announced that it awarded more than 4,007 degrees in May.

Samantha Nicole Markley of Hummelstown, a Lower Dauphin High School graduate, graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences.

Mia Alexandra Studenroth of Middletown graduated with a bachelor of science degree in marketing.

Also, congratulations to Colton McClure of Middletown, who graduated in the spring from Spring Arbor University in Michigan.

Dean’s lists

A total of 1,802 students were named to the dean's list at East Stroudsburg University for the spring semester.

Among them are:

Alexis McElwee, a communication sciences and disorders major from Middletown.

Kyler Wuestner, a physical education major from Hummelstown who graduated from Lower Dauphin High School.

Also, Bucknell University released the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester. On the list is Emily Scholfield, Class of 2022, from Hummelstown, a Lower Dauphin High School graduate.

Pineapple Party Summer Cake

1 yellow cake mix

2 pkgs. instant vanilla pudding

2 c. milk

2 pkgs. 8 oz. cream cheese

1 can (drained), crushed pineapple

Cool Whip

Prepare cake mix and bake according to 9-by-13-inch pan size, or jelly roll pan. Mix pudding and milk. Blend in soften cream cheese.

Spread on top of cooled cake. Top with drained pineapple, frost with cool whip. Enjoy!
