Jerry enjoyed woodworking and golfing, was an avid fan of Penn State football (where both of his children attended college), the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles sports teams. Most of all he enjoyed the love he received from his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra Kay (Steele) Burkett; son Robert E. Burkett and his fiancee Melissa D. Pickworth of Greenbelt, Md.; daughter Rebecca L., wife of Eric Harvey of Middletown; three brothers Dewey (Butch) Burkett Jr. of York, Ralph Burkett of York, and Edward Burkett of Arizona; two sisters Claire Hall of Palmyra, and Ellen Baran of New Jersey; two granddaughters Stephanie A., and Gabrielle E. Harvey; and several nieces and nephews.
A Tribute to his life was held on Tuesday at his church, with the Rev. Willie Carraballo officiating.
Burial with military honors by the Dauphin County Honor Guard was in Hillsdale Cemetery, Londonderry Township.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Royalton Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 500 Penn St., Royalton, PA 17057.
