Georgene F. Penyak

Georgene F. “Jean” Miller Penyak, 89, of Lower Swatara Township, Middletown, Pa., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Harrisburg Hospital.

Georgene was formerly of Harrisburg, Pa. and attended John Harris High School in Harrisburg, class of 1950. Georgene was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader and Cookie Chairman for Shope Gardens in Lower Swatara Township. Georgene also served as the first Middletown School District crossing guard and the Social and Program Director at Lower Swatara Civic Assoc. (now Lions Club). Mrs. Penyak served 30 years on the Dauphin County Election Board and was a 30-year member of the Shope Gardens Card Club. Georgene retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with 27 years of service, and was a member of Chambers Hill United Methodist Church, Harrisburg. She was also, a member of the Red Hat Society, Golden Group, American Businesswomen, and PARSE (Pennsylvania Assoc. Retired State Employees) and a social member of Lower Swatara Fire Department Auxiliary. Recently, Georgene was given the opportunity to be the 1st Grand Marshall in the Lower Swatara Halloween Parade.

Georgene was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, George Penyak Jr.; brother LeRoy Miller; sister Patricia Haverstock; daughter-in-law Judy Penyak; and several friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her three sisters, Jackie Sener of Harrisburg, Jill Avery of King William, Va., and Beverly Winter of Enola, Pa. She is also survived by two sons Rickey Penyak of Wrightsville, Pa., and Michael Penyak (Brinda) of Camp Hill, Pa.; and daughter Debbie Frazier (Bill) of Harrisburg, Pa.; five grandchildren Melissa Kosheba (Adam) of Harrisburg, Kelly DeJesus of Wrightsville, Jodie Frazier of Middletown, Janelle Weidner (Jeffery) of Mechanicsburg, and Larry Penyak (Caroline) of Mechanicsburg; three great-grandchildren Lauren and Jessica Kosheba, and Tegan Penyak. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and long-time friends and neighbors and her beloved feline friend Molly, whom she all loved dearly.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a private funeral and viewing for Mrs. Penyak. The viewing and funeral services will be posted live on Georgene’s webpage at www.matinchekfuneralhome.com.

Private burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
