George R. “Uncle Joe,” “Taps”
Shipper Jr., 84, formerly of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 23, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. George Shipper 7-2


 He was born in Middletown on October 18, 1929 and was the son of the late George R. Sr. and Lila C. Burkett Shipper. 


 He was a self-employed master carpenter, contractor, farmer, and historian; was of the Protestant faith and attended the Newport Assembly of God Church in Newport; he was also a member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the NRA; and he served in the United States Army during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal Japan. George enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy came from the love he received and time spent with his family and friends.


 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife June B. Shipper in 1999, an infant daughter Melanie Shipper, and three sisters Anna Garretson, Alice Feigel, and Patricia Bower.


 He is survived by his loving daughters Deborah and husband Stephen McCrady, and Lynette and husband Brian Zern, all of Shermansdale; sister Doris “Topper” Boyer of New Cumberland; grandchildren Chad and wife Susan McCrady, Stacey and husband Troy Campbell, and Shannon and husband Shane Wiest, all of Shermansdale; great-grandchildren Hunter and Alicia McCrady, Colton Campbell, and Addison and Olivia Wiest; half brother James Shipper of Royalton; nephew Darryl Trace; niece Karen and husband Ralph Hardy; dear lifetime friends Richard and Gloria Bibb and family; and several great- and great-great nieces and nephews. 


 A Tribute to his life was held on Friday at the Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Middletown, with Pastor Gary Bellis officiating. 


 Burial with Military Honors was in Middletown Cemetery.
