Charles Slingland


Charles E. Slingland, 95, of Elizabethtown, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday September 16, at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.


 He was born on September 3, 1919 in Easton, and was the son of the late Western and Mary Albus Slingland.


 He was retired from the Army Air Corps/United States Air Force where he served his country faithfully with dedication and honor, and was also retired from the Federal Government as a civilian employee; he belonged to Prince Edwin Creek Masonic Lodge 486, was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown; and was a devoted Hershey Bears Hockey fan, enjoyed hunting in his earlier years, and has always been a lover of cats and dogs.


 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Marianne Machrlein Slingland.


 He is survived by his son Paul W. Slingland Sr. and wife Karen of McAllisterville, Pa.; daughter Barb A. Lane and husband Nicholas of Steelton; two grandsons Nicholas Lane II of Steelton, and Paul W. Slingland Jr. and wife Barb of McAllisterville; and great-grandson Hayden Slingland of McAllisterville.


 Memorial Services for Charles were held on Tuesday at the Matinchek and Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Middletown, with the Rev. Dr. J. Richard Eckert, his pastor officiating. 


 Burial was at Middletown Cemetery with full military honors.
