Carlyn L. Bitner


Carlyn L. Bitner, 88, of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Hershey Medical Center.

She was born on April 21, 1930 in Middletown and was the loving daughter of the late Paul T. and Beulah (Judy) Leicht.

Carlyn was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Middletown. Carlyn was a graduate of Middletown High School, class of 1948. She retired as a secretary from Penn State Harrisburg after many years of service.

Carly was a lifelong resident of Middletown. She is well known in Middletown as a loving friend and volunteer to many. She was a member of the Middletown Women’s Club and enjoyed all sports including Middletown athletics. She was a dedicated volunteer and did work for Middletown Care-A-Van, CONTACT of Harrisburg and the Interfaith Board.

She was the devoted wife of Robert K Bitner for 59 years and his caretaker at the end of his life.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Bitner; sisters, Beatrice Lenker, Ethel Lyter; and brother, Paul Leicht.

Carlyn is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Maurer and her husband Mark of Boiling Springs, and Jennifer Bitner of San Francisco; grandchildren, Mitchell Maurer, Lily Maurer, Kai Souzis; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a tribute to Carlyn’s life on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 260 E. Main St., Middletown, Pa., with the Rev. Lee Ellenberger officiating. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

Interment will be at Middletown Cemetery.
