Black bear is still trekking through Lower Swatara Township; here are some recent photos

The bear is still there.

A young adult black bear weighing 175 to 200 pounds is still roaming in Lower Swatara Township.

Acting Police Chief Dan Tingle told the Press & Journal on Friday that it was seen Thursday traveling south in Old Reliance and was last seen on Stoner Drive.

Anyone who sees the bear should call Dauphin County communications at 717-558-6900.

Wednesday, it was spotted in a patch of woods between Farmhouse Lane and Candlewycke Drive at about 11:15 a.m.

The officers then lost sight of the bear right before that day’s storm. The Dauphin County Game Commission was assisting the officers, Tingle said.

He said there were reports of a bear in the area in Highspire earlier in the week.

Tuesday, people were posting on Facebook that they saw the bear near the 200 block of Lumber Street, Tingle said.

Tingle said on Wednesday morning the bear also was spotted in Shope Gardens, Greenwood Hills, Twelve Oaks and Old Reliance.

Here is another sighting of apparently the same bear at Sam's Club on Grayson Road this morning.
