Altland, Buffington honored by MAHS as Students of the Month

Two seniors recently were selected as Middletown Area High School’s Students of the Month for January.

Nicole R. Altland is the daughter of Dale and Lorraine Altland. Nicole has earned a spot on the honor roll throughout her high school career, along with an Academic Achievement Award. She is the secretary of both the band and National Honor Society as well as the vice president of Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Nicole is very involved in many MAHS activities, including marching band, concert band, jazz band, concert choir, select choir, Student Council, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Link Crew, Mini-THON, Senior Internship, volleyball, softball, the fall play and spring musicals.

She also participates in community activities such as volunteering for set-up for the Seven Sorrows Community Festival and performing with music clubs at various community venues.

She participates in county band, county chorus, district band, and honors band.

After high school, she plans on attending Penn State University main campus to major in digital art and media design.

“I am honored to be chosen for the January Student of the Month. I would like to thank my teachers, friends, and family for their never-ending support throughout my many memorable years here at Middletown,” she said.

Nicole selected Samuel Fisher as her MAHS Teacher of Influence. He is the MAHS band director.

Jacob C. Buffington is the son of Scott Buffington and Jennifer Yospa. Jacob has earned a place on the honor roll throughout his high school career. He was a district qualifier for cross country.

Jacob is involved in school activities such as marching band, concert band, jazz band, the spring musical, stage crew for the fall play, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Link Crew, cross country, wrestling and track and field.

Jacob plans to attend Penn State University main campus to study astrophysics.

“I am truly thankful for being selected as the student of the month for January. I owe it to my family, my friends, and my teachers for helping me hold myself to high standards. This achievement will not only show the hard work I have put into my education but will also drive me to continue to be the best student I can be,” he said.

Jacob selected Peter Fox as his MAHS Teacher of Influence. Fox teaches science and coaches cross country.
