Vote on Wilsbach Distributors plan to move to Lower Swatara Township might come tonight

The Lower Swatara Board of Commissioners might vote on plans for a beer distribution center at the corner of Oberlin Road and Longview Drive at its meeting today.

The agenda calls for the commissioners to either approve, reject or table plans for the Wilsbach Distributors warehouse at the meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. at the municipal building, 1499 Spring Garden Drive.

The board has until June 26 to vote on the plan, which was recommended by the township’s planning commission in April. If the board doesn’t take action on the plan tonight and it is tabled, a time extension might need to be granted.

The plan calls for a 284,260-square-foot warehouse with a 15,050-square-foot, two-story office building on about 57 acres, which is zoned industrial park.

The entrance to the warehouse would be off Oberlin Road. During the April 25 planning commission meeting, Wilsbach’s attorney David Getz said the beer distributor sends out 30 delivery trucks between 5 and 7 a.m., and 10 to 20 trucks come into the facility throughout the day.

Wilsbach is proposing to widen Oberlin Road along the entrance to install turn lanes into the facility, and the road would narrow heading toward Longview Drive.

Planning commission members and residents have expressed concerns about traffic safety, specifically about speeding and sight issues near the potential future entrance to the facility. One resident had concerns about adding more truck traffic on township roads.

During the Lower Swatara Board of Commissioners meeting Aug. 15, the board unanimously voted to transfer Wilsbach’s liquor license from Susquehanna Township — where the distribution center is located at 905 Katie Court near Union Deposit Road — to Lower Swatara.
