Multiple inches of snow fell on the Middletown area Tuesday well into Wednesday.

All schools and offices in the Middletown Area School District are closed Wednesday, and all evening activities are cancelled.

The Middletown Public Library also is closed.

Middletown borough offices are closed today.

On Tuesday, Middletown Mayor James H. Curry III declared a snow emergency in Middletown effective 7 a.m. on Wednesday. All vehicles parked in snow emergency routes will need to be moved.

Due to the weather, all Penn Waste routes were cancelled for Wednesday and will operate on a holiday schedule for the remainder of the week. Wednesday's routes will be collected on Thursday. Thursday's routes will be collected on Friday. Friday's routes will be collected on Saturday.

Lower Swatara Township declared a snow emergency effective at 7 a.m. Wednesday. All vehicles are to be moved from township streets by that time. Vehicles on the street after that time are subject to fines and/or towing.

Moving vehicles from the streets allows the Public Works crews to be more efficient at clearing the streets from curb to curb. All vehicles are to remain off the streets until the emergency is lifted.

The township requests residents to limit travel during this storm. Unless it is an emergency, stay off the roads until the snow is cleared.

Lower Dauphin School District schools and offices also are closed.
