Shields to play for Hood

Kyle Shields, a forward and four-year letterman, was recruited by Hood, a Frederick, Md., school that plays in Division III’s Middle Atlantic Conference against several local colleges, including Elizabethtown, Lebanon Valley and Messiah.

The Blazers finished the 2012 season with a 4-10-2 record.

Shields is unique because he can play several different positions, said Hood Coach Brian Wall. He joins two other recruits – Cumberland Valley forward Joseph Benton and James Rogers, a New Jersey center back who was an honorable mention on the state’s all-star team.

“We feel all three of these players have the potential to develop and mature into very strong and competitive Division III soccer players and we hope that all three of them are able to have an immediate impact on our program over the next four years,’’ said Wall.

Shields was named to the Mid-Penn Conference’s All-Star team in his senior year. He helped lead MIddletown to the District 3 playoffs in three of his four seasons.

He was a Distinguished Honor Roll student and hopes to major in communication art at Hood.
