In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his nephew Timothy Brought.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Helen J. Givler Schmidt; two daughters Tracy Schmidt Gipe of Middletown, and Melinda A., wife of Michael L. Heller of Elizabethtown; two brothers John J., husband of Nora Schmidt, and Joseph M., husband of Darlene Schmidt, all of Middletown; four sisters Nancy Brought of Hummelstown, Marjorie L. Schmidt of Hummelstown, Trudy, wife of William Sass of Rockfall, Conn., and Polly, wife of Alan Parsons of Waldron Ark.; five grandchildren Tyler R. Gipe, Alexander R. Gipe, Abigail E. Gipe, Harley A. Schmidt, and Jason L. Heller; and several nieces and nephews.
A Tribute to Richard’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 8, at the Frank E. Matinchek and Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 260 E. Main St., Middletown, with the Rev. Ted Keating officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville Pa.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
