Editor,

It is soon time the citizens of Middletown will be asked to make a very important decision. That is, whether to keep the incumbents of Borough Council seeking reelection or to replace them with the people running against them.

If the incumbents are reelected, they will continue down their path of removing or decreasing public services, divesting the town of taxpayer-owned assets and maintaining a cloak of secrecy over their operations. I am convinced if they are reelected they will make a new effort to sell off our utilities, resulting in decreased revenue for our town and increased costs for us all.

Ask yourself how many times this council declared our town broke or bankrupt and then spent millions of dollars to purchase property that would normally come through FEMA or PEMA. To my knowledge, there is still no accounting of these transactions.

They’ve spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on unbudgeted projects, seemingly without going through the legally required bidding process.

And they continue to spend what they say we don’t have.

However, you the voters can choose to replace them with the folks who will attempt to restore services we have lost, maintain and enhance our assets and provide transparency and honesty in your government.
Please remember that removing one or two of the incumbents will not allow us to make the change you desire – we must remove all the incumbents to make a real change and show the true mandate of the people to the remaining council members.

Therefore, I urge you, the citizens of Mddletown, to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for Robert Givler for mayor; Marcia Cleland for council in the Third Ward; Anne Einhorn and Ben Kapenstein for council in the Second Ward; and Rachelle Reid and me for council in the First Ward.
