Middletown police are asking anyone with information to come forward regarding a robbery of $12,000 cash that took place in broad daylight — 10 a.m. on a Saturday — in the rear parking lot of the M&T Bank at 120 S. Union St.

The incident happened Nov. 4, as a woman who is the manager of a Turkey Hill convenience store in Highspire was walking up to the rear entrance to the bank to make a deposit.

Police say that a man approached the woman from behind, grabbed her by the shoulder, and took from her the deposit bag containing $12,000 cash. The man did not display a weapon, police have said.

The suspect is identified as a white man who was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. He was of “athletic build,” police say.

After taking the bag, the man ran to the end of the parking lot, continued left on Poplar Street and then right onto Brown Street, where his vehicle was parked. Police did not provide more information about the vehicle.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything regarding the incident to contact police, by calling 717-902-0627 or 717-558-6900 after hours non-emergency.
