Pick up Kids Kastle pickets Saturday

Posted

The remaining wooden pickets from Kids Kastle in Hoffer Park will be available to be picked up in the park from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Middletown borough announced.

Get your picket by coming to the fenced skating area behind the basketball court.

Read a list of the pickets the borough is still in possession of, identified by the name or names on them, by viewing this story at www.pressandjournal.com.

About 300 pickets were retrieved in May. That left about 500 pickets yet to be picked up.

In 1992, people bought the pickets for $25 to help build the original Kids Kastle, which opened in 1993.

The borough closed Kids Kastle in June 2018 because the park had outlived its useful life and no longer met requirements of the federal Americans With Disabilities Act.

The borough is looking to build a new playground to replace Kids Kastle, to be known as Little Middletown.

The borough has not said what will happen to the pickets that are not retrieved. However, Mayor James H. Curry III has pledged the pickets will not be destroyed.
