McKesson move will lead to 64 layoffs in Lower Swatara Township

Sixty-four people are expected to be laid off in Lower Swatara Township due to the planned April 3 closure of McKesson Corp.’s Harrisburg Distribution Center at 1400 AIP Drive.

McKesson Medical-Surgical is consolidating its Middletown area location into a much larger new distribution center that opened near Bethlehem in fall 2019, company spokesman Randy King told the Press & Journal in an email.

McKesson announced these plans to its Middletown area employees in October 2018, King said.

Final timing of the move depended on when the new Bethlehem center was up and running.

The employees here were given the opportunity to look for other positions within the McKesson Corp., McKesson said in a plant closing notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.

According to the company’s website, McKesson Medical-Surgical is the largest distributor of wholesale medical supplies and equipment in the United States.

McKesson has been leasing the facility in Lower Swatara Township, King said.
