Rodney Nissley, a Lower Dauphin school board member has been charged with raping a child and other sexual offenses, according to records filed with District Magistrate Dominic Pelino.

Nissley, 47, of Hummelstown, was arrested and charged by Hummelstown police with rape, statutory sexual assault, incest, four counts of aggravated indecent assault, three counts of indecent assault, sexual contact/communication with a minor, and corruption of minors.

Nissley had been a member of the school board since December 2008. He served as board vice-president in 2012, but was replaced by Dana Barry in an 8-0 vote in December. He was absent for the reorganization meeting.

Hummelstown police arrested Nissley on Friday, March 15. He was arraigned before Magistrate Pelino, and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

Nissley resigned from his seat on the board on Thursday, March 14, prior to his arrest, according to a statement released by the school district Friday afternoon.

“The District is saddened to learn of the charges filed by the Hummelstown Borough Police Department against Mr. Rodney Nissley, a member of the Board of School Directors,” the statement noted. “The district expresses its concern for all the parties affected by this case and will have no further comment on this matter as it proceeds through the criminal justice system.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 22 at 9:30 a.m. with Pelino.
