Lavina E. Atkins


Lavina E. Atkins, 82, of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday October 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 22, 1935 in Frackville, Pa. and was the daughter of the late Henry and Eva (Ditzel) Hower.

She was retired from the City of Glendale, Ariz. where she was a custodian for many years. She was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Middletown and was also a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, also of Middletown, and she enjoyed traveling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas H. Atkins Sr., and eight siblings.

Lavina is survived by her loving children, Edward S. Atkins and his wife Mary Ann of Arizona City, Ariz., Thomas H. Atkins Jr. and his wife Vanessa of White House, Tenn., Lawson Atkins of Cottonwood, Ariz., Paul Atkins and his wife Debbie of Avondale, Ariz., and Edna Sullinger and her husband Dean of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother Charles Hower; a sister Helen McGarry; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, Phoenix, Ariz.

The family has entrusted the care of both the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Middletown and the Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, Arizona to handle the funeral arrangements.
