Free Civil War Era Dance Classes at Penn State Harrisburg (Sun. 22 Jan, 2017 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

The purpose of the activity is to expose the campus and surrounding community to the social aspects of people's lives during the Civil War. Unlike modern dancing that is couples-oriented, dancing in the mid-Victorian era was much more "social." Almost all dances were done in formations of circles, squares, or lines, with couples interacting with other couples. It was considered ill-mannered to dance with the same partner the entire evening.

The free lessons are on the following Sundays, 1/22/2017 (Dance Studio, 219/219A CUB), 2/12/2017 & 3/19/2017 (Student Center of the Capital Union Building), from 2 to 4 PM.

At the event, floor managers from the Victorian Dance Ensemble will assist the dance master by helping the participants learn the various formations.
