DOG GONE: Stray canines plague borough police

cagesphoto10 7 15WEBPress And Journal Photo by Dan Miller - This animal cage at the Middletown police station has housed stray dogs this year. Police have held 10 dogs over the last 11 months.

Middletown Police Chief John Bey has a message for borough residents: Keep your dog under control or expect to be cited.

Over the past 11 months since Bey arrived, about 10 “at large” dogs running loose in the borough have been brought to the police station or rounded up by officers after someone reported a complaint.

Ten dogs doesn’t sound like much over almost a year. However, since the borough doesn’t have a contract with the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, these loose dogs become the responsibility of police under local ordinances and state law, Bey said.
