Plagued by splits early, Middletown Area High School bowler Eric Belles rebounded with a 268 game and finished 15th among 24 boys in the Pennsylvania State High School Bowling Championships on Friday, March 20 at 222 Dutch Lanes in Ephrata.
The Elizabethtown girls' bowling team finished second in the team competition, falling to Pennsbury in the championships match, two games to one. Elizabethtown won the state title last season.
Belles, only the second Middletown bowler to reach the state championships, qualified for a shot at the state boys' title after finishing second in the Eastern Regional Bowling Championships in early March. Teammate Cole Kautz was the first Middletown bowler to compete in the championships, reaching the finals last year.
