A Harrisburg man escaped police while he was being placed into custody after an officer discovered a warrant had been issued calling for the man’s arrest, police said.
Jerome K. Buckner, 38, of the 1000 block of Whitehall St., was the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet sedan that was stopped at the Giant Foods Store in the MidTown Plaza at 3:05 a.m. on July 23, police said. Police said they stopped the car because it had a flat rear tire, a bald front tire and no lights operating on its license plate.
The investigating officer discovered that a warrant for trespassing, filed by Swatara Twp. police, had been issued calling for Buckner’s arrest, police said. Buckner fled on foot while police were attempting to handcuff him.
A foot chase ensued, but officers lost sight of Buckner in the 300 block of Vine St. when he jumped a fence, police said.
Four other people in Buckner’s car were released.
