Raiders sweep Patriots by winning all 14 bouts

by Bob Stone For The Press And Journal : 2/3/2010

Middletown 74, Red Land 0
The Blue Raiders swept the Patriots by winning all 14 bouts, and getting bonus-point victories in all but two.
C.J. McClure (140) started the night with a first period pin, followed by a tech fall by Mikey Simmons (145), 15-0 in the third period.

Bo Candelaria (152) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before, surprisingly giving up a reversal and nearly getting pinned.  He managed a reversal of his own and at the end of the period it was obvious what had happened.  He was sporting a black eye and needed help standing after, obviously, getting hit in the face.  He recovered, though, and finished off his opponent in the third period with a 17-2 tech fall victory.

Jeremy Bailes (160) scored a quick takedown and won his match by fall in the first period, followed by Elijah Flasher (171) who did the same in the second period.

Adam Moyer (189) and Robbie Brodish (215) each recorded forfeit victories.  Zach Biter (285) entered the third period ahead 6-4 in a back-and-forth match, and came away with a win by fall with five seconds left in the bout.
Bryce Killian (103) and Brock Thompson (112) each recorded falls in the first period.  Jordan Murray (119) won by decision 9-4.  Shane Miller (125) led 16-3 after one period, on his way to an 18-3 tech fall.  Celby Allen (130) won by a 5-3 decision, and Mason Williams (135) finished off the match with a 16-0 tech fall.

Middletown 29, Mech’burg 27
The Blue Raiders battled the Wildcats in a Saturday afternoon matinee at Millersville University, and bonus point victories would be the difference in this one.  Mechanicsburg jumped out to an 18-0 lead after four bouts.  After an 8-4 decision at 171 and pinfalls at 189 and 215, they also won the 285 bout by an 8-3 decision.

Bryce Killian (103) turned it around for the Raiders with a 16-3 major decision to get Middletown on the board.  Brock Thompson (112) followed with a 7-5 decision and a 16-0 tech fall by Jordan Murray at 119.

Shane Miller (125) kept it going with a 17-5 major decision, and Celby Allen’s (130) 5-1 decision put the Raiders ahead 19-18.  Mason Williams (135) was unable to score after two first period takedowns, dropping a 6-4 decision, to briefly give the Wildcats the lead. C.J. McClure (140) quickly turned it around for Middletown with a first period pin to put the Raiders ahead for good.  Bo Candelaria (145) won by a 10-2 major decision to make the score 29-21 with two bouts to go.  Though Mechanicsburg was able to win those final two bouts at 152 and 160, neither were bonus point victories and Middletown held on for the win 29-27.

The Blue Raiders will now move on to wrestle in the District 3 Team Championship Tournament.

Jr. High
Middletown 35, Red Land 42

Zach Ulerick (105) won by tech fall 16-0.  Nick Cain (110) won by fall.  Steven Cain (145) won by fall.  Chris Holliman (165) won by fall.  Don Nagle (185) won by forfeit, and Levi Sterner (75) won by fall.
